Welcome to the weekly live Q&A with David Guzik, author of the Enduring Word Bible commentary, and Pastor Lance Ralston. Simply add your questions to the Live Chat & our moderator will arrange & deliver them to Pastor David! We take as many questions as possible, but if yours is not answered, fear not! All unanswered questions are saved for use in future Q&A's. This week, Pastor David's Q&A begins with a question from TruthSeeker88 who asks: "Hello David, I received your Study Bible from a friend and I use it all the time! I have a question about reactions to a story that has been playing out across social media, and seem to reveal a strange dynamic. In the Lindsay Clancy case, I’ve been struck by how quickly some people move from ‘compassion for someone who was suffering’ to basically removing or excusing moral responsibility for what she did (deliberate & premeditated strangulation of her 8 month old and 3 year old sons, then her 5 year old daughter). How do we as Christians show mercy and forgive someone, while still recognizing the seriousness of their sin and allow justice to be served? Is there such a thing as “premature forgiveness”, or reconciliation without repentance?" Thoughts on the Lindsay Clancy case 15:28 I’ve forgiven the people who hurt me, so why do I still feel like I don’t want them in my life anymore? Does that mean I haven’t truly forgiven them? Why does it still hurt sometimes? Is it wrong to feel this way when I know in my heart that I truly love the Lord and want to forgive others as He has forgiven me? 20:39 If I have a blessed life and stumble into habitual sin, will God take away my blessings? For example, if He blessed me with a great job, could He take that job from me because of my sin? Is that biblical? 24:04 How do we avoid being like one of Job’s friends while still defending the Gospel when someone dies by suicide? Is it dangerous to tell others that someone who died by suicide is “at peace” or in a “better place”? 27:02 What is the biblical distinction between forgiveness and reconciliation? 28:25 In 2 Corinthians 10:5, Paul says to take every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. How does one actually do that? 31:30 How can I be sure that I’m making a decision that aligns with God’s will? Will God give us confirmation every time, or will He sometimes have us exercise our free will? 34:34 Does God regard or forgive sin differently when it is an isolated event versus a stronghold, where someone repeatedly stumbles in the same area but never gives up pursuing righteousness? 37:00 In Matthew 16, Jesus calls Peter the rock on which the church will be built, but in the very next verse calls Peter Satan and a stumbling block. Why are these two stories placed together, and what does this teach us about Peter? 40:55 When does “thinking positively” cross the line into the New Thought doctrine of positive affirmation or confession? 42:33 How can one develop their spiritual gifts? 44:50 Do you think a pastor should be paid enough from the church salary to become rich? 47:57 What is your opinion of the James Moffatt Bible and the J.B. Phillips New Testament? 48:57 When Jesus says, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you,” what did you mean when you said that God doesn’t choose us? 51:32 Why do some Christians believe that they decided to be saved on their own accord? Is the decision to be saved something we make, if the Bible teaches that we are saved by grace alone? 54:14 What happened to the gold, myrrh, and frankincense offered to Jesus at His birth? 54:45 Can Christian men who are not pastors, elders, church staff, or otherwise ordained baptize their own children who are believers? 55:30 In Luke 9, why does it say that Moses and Elijah spoke with Jesus about His “departure”? 56:33 Can a Christian musician work in the secular music industry? What is the biblical balance? 57:22 What are your thoughts on tarrying for the Holy Spirit? 58:07 What do you hope to experience on this special Enduring Word cruise? #biblestudy #christianity #jesus #bible #christian #pastor #christianliving #enduringword
